November 2026 Ocean Freight Outlook: A Market Moving in Different Directions
Planning November shipments requires a trade-lane view. The latest October indicators point to softer transpacific pricing from a high base and continued pressure on Asia–Europe rates. Carrier increases remain a separate signal: an announced adjustment does not guarantee the same increase in the spot market.
This BRF LOGISTICS outlook combines published market indicators with practical shipment planning. It covers China exports, Thailand exports, Vietnam–Australia shipping and our wider Europe delivery network. For service options, explore fret maritime, FCL shipping et Groupage LCL.

Xeneta’s separate 7 October assessment placed Far East–US West Coast at USD 8,336/FEU, US East Coast at USD 11,512/FEU, North Europe at USD 3,645/FEU and Mediterranean at USD 4,007/FEU. Xeneta noted the first marginal daily dip in US West Coast rates since mid-September. November Freight Rate Forecast by Trade Lane
The following scenarios are planning interpretations, rather than published carrier quotations.
| Trade lane | November planning scenario | What to monitor |
|---|---|---|
| China → US West Coast | High-level volatility with scope for further easing | Post-holiday bookings, available sailings and surcharge execution |
| China → US East Coast | Elevated costs with possible gradual softening | Routing, allocation and fuel-related charges |
| China → North Europe / UK | Downward pressure competing with carrier price increases | FAK implementation, blank sailings and Suez routing |
| China → Mediterranean | Soft near-term indicators; subsequent direction depends on capacity | Service changes and destination-specific space |
| China / Thailand / Vietnam → Australia or New Zealand | No verified uniform November direction in this research | Port-pair rates, equipment and sailing frequency |
| Chine → Afrique | Quote by destination and service; avoid a region-wide forecast | Transshipment, port operations and destination charges |
China to the USA and Canada
For a time-critical shipment, compare the booked departure and receiving deadline alongside price. A lower rate on a later sailing may not meet the buyer’s delivery requirement. For flexible cargo, request alternatives across suitable sailings and ports. Canadian cargo needs its own ocean and inland comparison; a US route index is not a Canadian quote.

De la Chine vers l'Europe et le Royaume-Uni
Drewry reported 13 consecutive weeks of Asia–Europe rate declines and carrier attempts to lift FAK pricing in the second half of October. It identified faster Suez-route restoration as a risk to those increases. For November procurement, verify whether a quoted increase is actually being charged and whether the service sails via Suez or the Cape of Good Hope.

Australia, New Zealand and the South Pacific
Do not assume that an Asia–Europe decline applies to Sydney, Melbourne, Brisbane, Fremantle or Auckland. Compare the actual loading port, destination, cargo-ready date and delivery address. Island shipments may require additional connections; confirm routing and local arrangements before booking.

Africa and Other Destination-Specific Trades
For African shipments, separate ocean freight from clearance and inland delivery. Check transshipment connections, free time, container return arrangements and destination charges. South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria and Sierra Leone requests should be assessed individually through our China to Africa shipping service. Other destinations can be reviewed through the BRF route directory or our quotation team.
Confirmed November Carrier Adjustment: Check the Origin Before Applying It
Hapag-Lloyd has announced a GRI/GRA for full containers gated in from 1 November 2026, valid until further notice, from the Indian Subcontinent, Pakistan and Middle East to North America.
| Origine | Destination | Announced increase |
|---|---|---|
| Indian Subcontinent / Pakistan / Middle East | North America East Coast and Gulf Coast | USD 1,000 per container |
| Same origins | North America West Coast | USD 1,500 per container |
The announcement covers specified 20ft and 40ft dry, reefer and special equipment, including high cubes. It does pas establish a China–USA increase. Confirm origin, equipment, rate agreement and the applicable gate-in date with the carrier. See the original notice in the sources below.
What Could Change November Ocean Freight Costs?
1. Blank Sailings and the Post-Golden Week Cargo Return
Maersk’s 7 October Asia Pacific update describes selected East–West sailing adjustments during the holiday period and into October. Reduced sailing frequency may widen the gap between departures while production resumes. For November, our planning focus is the balance between returning cargo and the departures actually available.
2. Suez Routing and Effective Capacity
The same update announced four additional Gemini services transitioning to Suez rather than the Cape of Good Hope. Implementation varies by service and voyage. BRF’s interpretation is that shorter routings can ease effective capacity pressure if the transition continues, while safety-related changes can still alter schedules.
3. Carrier Pricing and Surcharge Validity
Ask whether GRI, PSS and fuel-related charges are included, waived or separately payable. Confirm whether validity follows booking, gate-in, tariffing or sailing date. A rate expiring before your cargo is ready may not be usable.
4. Inland Delivery and Receiving Conditions
The ocean component is only part of a door shipment. Trucking, handling, customs support and receiving conditions can change total cost. Provide the final address, access restrictions, unloading method and appointment requirements when requesting livraison à domicile.

November Shipping Checklist: Get a Quote You Can Actually Use
- Confirm cargo readiness: give the collection address and the earliest realistic loading date.
- Send packing data: commodity, packages, dimensions, CBM, gross weight and stackability; flag batteries, liquids, temperature control or oversized cargo.
- Define the transport scope: port-to-port, pickup plus sea freight, or delivery to a complete destination address.
- Clarify the trade term: identify which party handles export, import, duty and tax responsibilities.
- Check rate validity: ask which event fixes the price and whether surcharges are included.
- Review schedule options: request the estimated departure, transit, transshipment and delivery assumptions.
- Plan unloading: explain whether the consignee has a forklift, loading dock or other suitable unloading arrangements.
For flexible shipments, compare suitable departures rather than betting on a single November rate forecast. For fixed deadlines, prioritize a workable shipment plan and confirmed allocation.
November 2026 Ocean Freight Outlook: Frequently Asked Questions
Will ocean freight rates rise in November 2026?
There is no verified market-wide increase. Early October indicators show easing on several major trades, while some carriers are announcing route-specific adjustments. November outcomes depend on demand, capacity and actual price execution.
Are the rates above November BRF quotations?
No. They are early October market benchmarks. BRF quotes are prepared for the shipment’s origin, destination, cargo, equipment, date and agreed service scope.
Does the November 1 Hapag-Lloyd GRI apply to China–USA cargo?
The verified notice applies to Indian Subcontinent, Pakistan and Middle East origins to North America. It should not be applied to China-origin shipments without a separate applicable notice.
Can BRF arrange FCL, LCL and door delivery?
BRF can review FCL, LCL, origin handling and destination delivery requirements across its published service corridors. The quote confirms availability and responsibilities, including whether DDP is suitable.
Does a lower ocean rate mean a lower DDP cost?
Not necessarily. DDP pricing also depends on customs, duty and tax treatment, destination handling and delivery requirements. Compare the same shipment scope and stated inclusions.
How should I plan Thailand or Vietnam exports in November?
Use the relevant origin route page and provide the actual factory location and cargo-ready date. China-based indices do not establish the rate for a Thailand or Vietnam shipment.
