China Export Sailings After Golden Week 2026: Blank Sailings, Cutoffs and October Booking Plan

Updated September 29, 2026. China’s National Day Golden Week runs from October 1 to 7. This guide looks ahead to export operations after the holiday using information available before October begins. It does not claim that post-holiday congestion or a particular delay has already occurred. Vessel schedules, space, equipment and terminal cutoffs can change; verify the actual booking with the carrier or your freight forwarder.

Which October 2026 Sailings Are Already Announced as Blank?

The following examples come from published Maersk advisories as of this article’s update date. A blank sailing means the named voyage will not operate as originally planned; it does not mean the whole service or trade lane is suspended. The carrier may offer coverage through another voyage or routing. Check the carrier’s latest sailing schedule before using any of these dates for a shipment.

What Happens to China Export Shipping After October 7?

Factories, trucking teams, CFS warehouses and documentation staff may restart on different schedules. A container terminal can remain open during the holiday while supplier handover, customs documents or inland transport still determine whether cargo meets a vessel cutoff. Consequently, October 8 is a reopening date, not a universal departure date.

Some shipments will move on their booked voyages; others may need a later gate-in, a replacement service or a different Chinese load port. The outcome depends on the supplier’s confirmed cargo-ready date, equipment availability, vessel rotations and the CY or CFS deadline. China to USA: Check the Actual Replacement Vessel

Eastbound Transpacific services account for the largest share of announced East–West blank sailings in Drewry’s weeks 40–44 sample. For a US-bound container, ask whether a cancelled voyage is replaced by a later ship on the same service, a different service, or a connection through another port. Verify the China load port call, transshipment if any, US discharge port, customs and inland delivery window.

China to Europe: An Open Booking Channel Is Not a Guaranteed Departure

The AE15, AE12 and AE1 examples above show why importers need to compare actual voyages after the holiday. Maersk says alternative coverage plans will be offered through its usual booking channels, but the replacement route and timing should be confirmed for each shipment. Ask whether the quoted transit time assumes a direct service, transshipment, or a particular Suez/Cape routing.

Australia, New Zealand and Other Routes: Verify Port-Pair Schedules

Drewry’s 58 cancellations measure the major East–West trades and should not be applied directly to China–Australia, China–New Zealand or intra-Asia routes. Those shippers should request a current port-pair sailing search, especially where a container moves through a transshipment hub. Compare direct and connecting services, equipment release, export cutoff and destination delivery lead time.

FCL and LCL Cutoffs: The Checks That Prevent a Missed Sailing

For a full container load (FCL)

1. Get the supplier’s written cargo-ready date and loading address.
2. Confirm empty-container availability and the trucking appointment.
3. Check the carrier’s CY cutoff, VGM deadline, shipping instructions deadline and customs declaration timing for the replacement voyage.
4. Keep the container number, seal number and booking number consistent across documents.
5. After gate-in, check the vessel’s actual departure rather than treating the planned ETD as proof of sailing.

For a less-than-container load (LCL)

LCL cargo must reach the consolidator before its CFS cutoff, often earlier than the vessel’s terminal cutoff. Ask for the warehouse receiving date, consolidation schedule, planned vessel and transshipment details. A missed CFS closing can shift a small shipment by an entire sailing cycle. Post-Holiday Booking Checklist for Importers

• Fret : product description, HS code if available, packages, gross weight and dimensions.
• Origine : factory address, confirmed ready date, loading capacity and pickup contact.
• Destination : port or full delivery postcode, required arrival date and unloading needs.
• Service : FCL or LCL, preferred load port, direct service preference and acceptable backup route.
• Schedule: exact voyage, ETD/ETA, CY or CFS cutoff, transshipment port and free time.
• Cost: freight validity, origin charges, fuel or peak-season surcharges, destination charges and any requested door delivery.
