Trump Threatens Canada With 100% Tariffs Over China Trade Deal

U.S. President Donald Trump has warned that if Canada signs a trade deal with China, the U.S. will hit all Canadian goods with a 100% tariff — doubling down on trade tensions between the two longtime allies. Trump said on Truth Social that Canada must not become a “drop-off port” for Chinese products potentially entering the U.S. market

Earlier, Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney traveled to Pekin to reset economic relations with China and agreed to lower some tariffs, especially on electric vehicles and farm exports. Trump initially appeared supportive of Carney’s efforts but abruptly reversed course, accusing Canada of risking U.S. market disruption

Canada responded by urging citizens to support local products, and Canadian officials say they aren’t pursuing a full free trade agreement with China. The feud has added strain to U.S.-Canada relations, which have been rocky since Trump’s return to the White House
