A bulk carrier is a merchant ship designed primarily to carry large quantities of unpackaged dry cargo in cargo holds.

Instead of loading goods into standard shipping containers, dry bulk cargo is poured, conveyed, grabbed or pumped directly into the vessel’s holds.
